Phra Pidta

Story:

Phra means monk, Pidta means closed eyes.

 

Legend says Phra Pidta was an apprentice of Buddha.

He accumulated blessings and virtues in his three past lifetimes as a human.

 

  1. When the place he practiced Buddhism was flooded, and monks were almost drowned to death, Buddha sent Pidta to stop the flood from drowning the people. He gained respect from heaven and also mortals as they were convinced of his ability.

  2. Pidta sincerely worshipped Buddha and monks with fresh flowers.

  3. He set up simple sheds for monks who mediated at an open area so that the monks can meditate and stay away from the hot sun and rain.

 

Beliefs:

Phra Pidta is often mistaken as a fighting God, which it is not. It was perceived with an image where the bearer of Pidta who commit crimes will not be caught. It gave a negative impression to people that Pidta encourages people (especially youths) to commit crimes.

  • Indifferent (having no particular interest) to all external temper and emotions.

  • Enhance fortune, luck, bringing in unexpected money

  • Ward off evils (Good for people who goes out of town to do business, or doing dangerous work)

  • Prevent villains

  • Focused
